“Do I need a root canal?”
If you have a severe toothache and other signs of infection, you may need a root canal to get you out of pain and save your natural tooth. It’s a safe, comfortable procedure that removes deep infection, stopping the problem at its source and preventing the need for an extraction.
As your Roswell root canal dentist, we understand the anxiety that can come with tooth pain. We’ve replaced outdated methods with a gentle, precise approach. Our goal is to make your treatment feel as smooth as a routine filling, so you can keep your tooth and get back to feeling like yourself again.
“What can I expect during a root canal?”
We prioritize your comfort every step of the way. A root canal is a straightforward procedure that we’ve perfected to be as gentle as possible. Here’s what will happen:
Complete numbing: First, we’ll make sure the area is fully numb.
Removing the infection: our Roswell root canal dentist will create a tiny opening in the tooth to gently remove the infected inner tissue (pulp).
Advanced cleaning: Using quiet, flexible rotary instrumentation, we thoroughly clean the inner canals.
Sealing the tooth: We fill the clean canals with a safe, biocompatible material to prevent any new infection from getting in.
Protecting your tooth: Finally, the tooth is sealed. We almost always recommend a dental crown afterward to give your tooth the long-term strength and protection it needs.

FAQ about root canals
Is my root canal going to hurt?
No. The whole point of a root canal is to relieve the terrible pain caused by an infection. With modern numbing techniques, the procedure itself should feel no different than getting a standard filling.
What is rotary instrumentation?
It’s an advanced, electrically-powered tool with a very flexible tip. It allows us to clean the inside of your tooth more quietly, quickly, and thoroughly than with old-fashioned manual tools, which makes your appointment much more comfortable.
Can't I just have the tooth pulled?
Saving your natural tooth is always the best choice. Keeping your tooth helps maintain your bite, prevents neighboring teeth from shifting out of place, and helps you avoid more complex and costly treatments like dental implants or bridges.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
Common signs include a severe and constant toothache, extreme sensitivity to hot or cold, swollen gums near a specific tooth, or a tooth that has darkened in color. The only way to know for sure is to come in for an exam.

Thank you to Dr. Hood and her entire team! So very personable with expert care. I had veneers added to my two chipped front teeth. They look great! The new teeth match my existing teeth flawlessly.
